Results: Race #3

Race #3 brought us back to the Provo Boat Harbor with another great course. Slightly more technical than the last visit to the harbor with plenty of 180 degree turns and a few fun off cambers tossed in there. Plus who doesn't love a little change of direction in sand pits?

A huge thank you to the p-town community for watching each others back, literally. Numbers were pinned on the left side for this race and it was great seeing everyone help each other out in the parking lot, making sure numbers were pinned correctly. Thank you!

Without further ado, week #3 results!

Race #3 Venue Change To Provo Boat Harbor

Tomorrow's race venue has been changes to the Provo Boat Harbor. This is because of the following reasons.

When the city approved the event, there was a box that was left un-checked to allow us to close down a small road to automobiles. It was talked about verbally but at the end of the day it is my fault and I (Joe) take full responsibility and I apologize.

The weather that could be moving in this evening would ensure that we would cause significant damage to the grass. The city is concerned but was still going to let us race there. Much like last years cancellation in provo, I would rather cancel an event than cause major damage to a City park where it is used weekly for youth sports and on top of that, this park in particular is also the playground for Daybreak elementary school. It is best for P-Town and the sport in general to make any sacrifices needed to minimize any negative appearance by the community. We are working diligently to grow this sport and want to provide new and fun experiences for all. This venue would have done that!

We hope you all understand!

We will see you Wednesday 10/7 at the Provo Boat Harbor. Kids race at 5:15 and Adults at 5:30.

Results: P-Town Race #2

Race #2 marked our first visit to our new venue at the Provo Boat Harbor. The new location proved to be a great course with sand pits, our flyover, and spectacular views of the Wasatch. We had an amazing turnout and hope to see even more racers at this weeks race in South Jordan.

Before we get to the results, a quick note on race numbers. Yes pinning numbers is new for many of us. This past week we saw a lot of numbers pinned on the wrong side, upside down, or not pinned properly resulting in us not being able to read the numbers. Here are a few pointers.

  1. 9 times out of 10 numbers will be pinned on the right side. Always ask which side the number should be on when you register.
  2. Pin the number above the right jersey pocket as seen above. If it is in the center of the back it is to hard to read from the side of the course, and if it is pinned to far on the side of your jersey, your arm will obstructed the view.
  3. Make sure your number is not pinned upside down. The only exception is if you are given number 13.
  4. Use 6-8 pins. One pin for each corner as well as pins on the sides. This prevents folding over of numbers and also the parachute effect, keeping the number flat on your back. See the example above on how to properly pin a number.

This week lets help each other out. See someone with the number pinned on incorrectly? Let them know and help a fellow 'cross racer out.

Now for the results.

Jonathan Page Cyclocross Clinic at Ogden Cyclocross Course

American cyclocross professional racer Jonathan Page hosted a cyclocross clinic at the Ogden Cyclocross Park just a few days after the grand opening race at the venue. Proceeds from the clinic went to the Amy D Foundation.

The Ogden CX Course was a spectacular venue for both the clinic at the race days before. The course includes sand, a lot of elevation gain, as is a great place to hold any 'cross practice. The clinic started off with mounts and dismounts (the step through is not dead) before heading up to the rest of the course to focus on sand technique and cornering drills. Additionally there was an extensive discussion on nutrition, tire tread choice, and clinchers vs tubulars vs tubeless.

PC: Joe Johnson

PC: Joe Johnson

We cannot say enough about the quality of this cyclocross park and encourage you to head over to the park for your next cyclocross practice. This park will serve as the venue for the USAC Utah State Cyclocross Championships to be held in December.

We appreciate everyone who came out to the clinic and supported Utah cyclocross, the Amy D Foundation, and the Ogden Cyclocross Park. It is our goal to make 'cross great in Utah and with your help, we can do it. Stay tuned as we will update this article with a gallery of images from the day.
